National Task Force on Election Crises: The 2020 Election Was Secure and Accurate

On July 16, 2026, President Trump, in a primetime address to the nation, reasserted false claims of foreign interference in the 2020 presidential election. The National Task Force on Election Crises released the following response:

“The 2020 election was secure and accurate. The outcome has been affirmed and reaffirmed through five years of audits, recounts, court cases and intelligence reviews. There is no evidence—and no new intelligence in this speech—that any foreign actor changed any election result.

“Repackaging long-discredited claims just months before the midterms is not only irresponsible; it is actively harmful to public confidence in our elections.

“Election security is a priority that requires ongoing vigilance and increased investment. Yet as a non-partisan group of elections experts, we want to be unequivocally clear: There is no evidence that should make voters doubt the results of past elections, and we remain confident in states’ ability to deliver safe, secure, and accurate elections in 2026.”
