Aug 3, 2023 National Task Force on Election Crises Issues Statement on the Indictment of Former President Donald Trump

Today, the National Task Force on Election Crises released the following statement in response to the indictment of former President Donald Trump for alleged crimes related to the 2020 election: 

“The indictment of a former President and a current presidential candidate is a charged moment in any democracy. To reduce the risk of a 2024 election crisis, we call on elected officials and other public figures to remember that every individual is innocent unless proven guilty, to stand for the due process of law, and then to accept the final judgment of the courts. 

In the months to come, we ask public officials and leaders to reject the demonization of law enforcement officials and other public servants for fulfilling their official duties, and to condemn political violence or threats of violence of any kind.”
